The toughest group of the Tokyo Olympics men’s football tournament, Group D, contains both Rio 2016 finalists — back when Brazil beat Germany on penalties at the Maracana Stadium to win gold on home soil.

Both nations are odds-on favourites to qualify from Group D and into the quarter-finals.

Manchester United fans will be keeping their eyes on the Ivory Coast — and their first fixture is against Saudi Arabia, making its first Olympics appearances since 1996.

So, more football to follow after the European Championships, but this does mean one of our younger players will be late returning for pre-season preparations.

The reason United fans should have an interest in the Ivory Coast is Amad Diallo, our right winger who has made the squad and it could be a fascinating opportunity to make a name for himself on the international stage.

Amad shared a picture on social media as he prepared for the Olympics.
