England have one foot in the semi-finals of the European Championships after a solid first hour against Ukraine. Harry Kane gave the Three Lions an early lead and it was another Harry, this time Maguire, who gave them a two-goal cushion instantly after the restart.
The goal marks a spectacular return to the squad, having initially been a doubt for the entire tournament. The 28-year-old made his return to action in the latter stages of the group stage after six weeks on the sidelines due to ankle ligament damage.
England made their way onto the pitch after the interval with fantastic intensity, which eventually resulted in Southgate’s side taking a stranglehold of the tie.
