Eric Bailly and Amad Diallo named in Ivory Coast Olympics squad

Manchester United pair Eric Bailly and Amad Diallo have been named in Ivory Coast’s squad for this summer’s Tokyo Olympics set to take place in Japan later this month. Bailly, a full international since 2015, will be joined by Diallo as the duo set their sights on Olympic glory this summer.

Amad made his international bow earlier this year, scoring a decisive free-kick winner in just his second appearance, and will now represent his country on the biggest stage.

All participating sides in the tournament must name a 22-man squad, with all but three players aged 24 or under. Amad, who is only 18, fits the criteria but Bailly has been named as one of the players allowed to be older.

Ivory Coast is set to face Brazil, Germany and Saudi Arabia at the tournament, due to take place on July 22 and end August 7, just one week before Manchester United’s league campaign kicks off.

The tournament could mean that the pair miss pre-season preparations, which could prove to be a huge blow to Amad’s chances of impressing the manager in the off-season.
