Transfer hangs in the balance as Real Madrid wait on Raphael Varane’s final answer

After agreeing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho, Manchester United must look to address their problems in defence.

Attention is about to turn to which players could be following the England international to Old Trafford. It took a long time for United to get over the line for Sancho, but we are finally there — just waiting on medicals which may have to wait until England’s Euro 2020 campaign comes to an end.

One name that won’t go away is Raphael Varane at Real Madrid, where his contract expires in less than a year and it doesn’t look like he wants to renew.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo (H/t Sport Witness) claims Madrid are ‘still waiting for an answer’ from Varane. He ‘must soon announce’ what his desire is this summer.

Madrid will either want to sell the player or see him renew his contract at the club. The last thing they want is to lose Varane on a Bosman — after giving 10-years to the club.

Time will tell how convincing United can be.
