Aston Villa interested in re-signing Manchester United defender

Aston Villa have registered interest in re-signing Manchester United defender Axel Tuaznebe, according to reports.

Dean Smith is thought to be in the market for a new centre-back having offloaded Bjorn Engels to Royal Antwerp. And he wants competition for Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.

Tuanzebe didn’t play a lot of football last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, mainly due to the fact he was injured, but at 23-years-old he needs to kick on now if he’s to have any chance of a future at Old Trafford.

Last season may not be one to remember for Tuanzebe because he managed just 4 Premier League starts throughout the campaign, but fans will fondly recall his performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the group stages of the Champions League.

Moreover, tt’s a cause for concern that Tuanzebe has not been able to offer competition against Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly for a place alongside Harry Maguire, with the club now active in the transfer market looking for a new centre-back. That is surely enough of a warning for Tuanzebe to at least get out on a season-long loan.

Football Insider claim Villa have ‘concrete’ interest in Tuanzebe and will make an offer if United are willing to hold talks. He has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford but the club are in a position to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

United are thought to be prioritising a move for Raphael Varane once they get the Jadon Sancho deal over the line.
