Manchester United are close to completing the transfer of Jadon Sancho and thus, focus will be shifted towards other targets. The 21-year-old is expected to sign for the club after his involvement in this summer’s European Championships is over.

Journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation, as well as what the club is planning to do after the deal to sign Sancho is completed.

Sancho is close to joining Manchester United but some details remain, Romano wrote in his BenchWarmers column. Although the transfer hasn’t been completed, there is optimism that a final agreement will be reached.

Romano writes that upon announcing a deal for Sancho, focus will shift to securing a centre-back. Raphael Varane is listed as the club’s first-choice target but a move will depend on Real Madrid’s asking price. Villareal’s Pau Torres is also on ‘the list’.

  1. Perhaps John Murtough should try to gauge Real Madrid’s stance first embarking on the transfer of Varane. From past experience, Real Madrid always drive a hard bargain when United is involved. United have done less business with players from Real to United, and more business where players moved from United to Real, especially Beckham and Ronaldo.
Moving for Pau Torres first I think will be a better approach unless Varane puts in a transfer request.
