Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign a partner to Harry Maguire, according to the latest reports. Maguire, the recognized number one at the heart of United’s defence, is the team’s consistent leader questions remain over who should partner him.

Victor Lindelof has impressed in spells but the Swede is often the subject of criticism from supporters and media, whilst injury concerns surrounding Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones means the club are without a clear partnership.

But according to reports, the club is now intensifying their efforts of signing a centre-back this summer, with most of the work being done is reportedly to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

That’s according to journalist Constantin Eckner, who revealed the news on Twitter on Monday evening. The Real Madrid defender has just one year remaining on his contract and with an extension growing increasingly unlikely, the club are said to be ready to swoop in.

Varane, who is a longstanding target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was a target for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 but it was the Spanish club who won the race to sign him 10 years ago.
