AC Milan have reportedly earmarked Donny van de Beek as a possible replacement for outgoing Hakan Calhanoglu, who is set to leave the club on a free transfer. The Turkey international will join city rivals Inter Milan, leaving the Rossoneri with a gap to fill at the heart of their midfield.
Calhanoglu, who often operated in the ‘number 10’ role behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is set to be replaced and according to reports, the Italian club has drawn up a shortlist of names to fill the void.
According to MilanNews, Donny van de Beek is one of many players who fits the profile AC Milan are looking for, with former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech also reportedly a target.
Van de Beek has endured a difficult first season at the club, despite seemingly getting off to a promising start after scoring on his debut.
The Dutchman only started four league games in his maiden campaign and was an unused substitute in Manchester United’s Europa League final loss. The 24-year-old’s season went from bad to worse when he was ruled out of this summer’s European Championships with a groin injury.
A decision on Van de Beek’s future is unlikely to be taken just yet, with the midfielder set to return to the club for pre-season preparations ahead of the 2021/22 season.
