Reports suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is edging towards Dean Henderson as his number one goalkeeper next season.

The goalkeeping dynamic of Henderson and David de Gea is unsustainable for a second season but the Manchester Evening News understands the former is currently in line to start the season opener against Leeds United.

Henderson, 24, was forced to withdraw from the England squad on Tuesday because of a hip injury. He is expected to be available for a full pre-season but United are giving him a month off to rest up and recover from his knock.

A lot of questions were asked when Solskjaer started De Gea in Gdansk as United lost the Europa League final on penalties. It ended 11-10 after De Gea failed to score his spot kick.

But Henderson’s form towards the end of the season wasn’t great and he was widely criticised for his performance in the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool.

  1. Commendable decision by Ole if these reports are true. The young man has the potential & I’m sure he won’t disappoint.he gave a good account of himself when he was given a run of games.it’s worth noting that the dip in form mentioned there also coincided with Maguire’s injury that resulted in shambolic displays from the defence so it’s unfair to heap all the blame on Dean.he’s learning & will continue getting better.
