Donny van de Beek’s first season in the Premier League didn’t exactly go to plan. The midfielder has struggled to make an impact under Solskjaer this season and was limited to just four starts in the Premier League.
Talks of a potential exit this summer have dominated the headlines in the build-up to pre-season and some have even suggested that a move to fierce rivals Liverpool could be on the cards.
But despite his lack of minutes, the former Ajax star is determined to prove his worth at Old Trafford and convince the manager of his abilities.
That’s according to Dutch journalist Simon Zwartkruis, who claims to have been reassured of the player’s chances next season by his agent.
“He (Van de Beek’s agent) said it was complete bullshit,” Zwartkuis told VI. “There has been a conversation with the trainer about next season. He just has to get fit quickly so that on day one, he is the strong Van de Beek they bought at the time.”
The 24-year-old was dealt a further blow of first-team football after being ruled out of this summer’s European Championships due to a troublesome groin injury. Van de Beek is now expected to return in time for pre-season preparations.
