Jesse Lingard has been tipped to complete a permanent move to a Premier League rival by former Arsenal player Nigel Winterburn. Lingard has been in extraordinary form in 2021 and West Ham are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder on a permanent transfer.
Lingard is out of contract at Manchester United in 2022 and is free to speak to other clubs in just six months, sparking reports that a number of clubs could be set to swoop in for the 28-year-old.
With 9 goals and 4 assists in only 13 games for Lingard, he has been one of the form players in Europe and according to Nigel Winterburn, West Ham are favourites to secure his signare.
“He (Lingard) looked like someone going nowhere but he’s been sensational at West Ham. I think there’s a conversation to be had at Man Utd as to whether he’d fit back into their plans,” Winterburn told The Sun. “If not, he’s had this success at West Ham, so I don’t know why he’d want to sign elsewhere. He knows the club, so I think West Ham would be favourites to sign him.”
Lingard is believed to still have great affection for Manchester United but could still seek a move away from the club in order to continue his rapid rise back to the top.
With Bruno Fernandes in scintillating form, it is unrealistic to suggest that Lingard will be able to challenge United’s talisman for a starting berth in his preferred position. David Moyes has lobbied for West Ham to make the signing but with the manager also out of contract at the London Stadium, it is yet unclear whether a deal can be made.
