Jesse Lingard given Euro lifeline after two England injuries

Jesse Lingard has been handed a lifeline for this summers European Championships after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s muscle injury. But it has now been revealed that Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has been ruled out of their warm-up game against Romania on Sunday.

Lingard was a surprise exclusion from Gareth Southgate but the midfielder could make the final squad in the 11th hour. Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for six weeks, which means that Southgate will name a replacement for the right-back imminently.

And just hours before England take on Romania, it has now been revealed that Bukayo Saka will miss the game with a hip injury. According to The Athletic, Saka’s hip complaint is significant enough to rule him out of the game and he will now be assessed. Currently, there are no indications that the injury will rule him out of Euro 2020 but the situation will be monitored closely.

Lingard is currently seen as one of the favourites to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the squad, but James Ward-Prowse is also believed to be in the running.

Lingard started England’s 1-0 win over Austria and was involved in the goal, making the decisive pass which eventually lead to the home side scoring the only goal of the game.
