‘No one can replicate’ – Hamann urges Liverpool to sign £72m Manchester United flop as Mo Salah replacement

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Arne Slot should target £72m Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho or Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka as Mohamed Salah’s successor at Anfield.

The Scousers have enjoyed a strong start to the season under new manager Slot as they sit top of the Premier League, with seven wins from their opening eight matches.

Sadly, that includes a 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Slot couldn’t have asked for a better start and they’ll be full of confidence ahead of an important Christmas run this year.

Slot has some big hurdles to jump over the coming months with Trent Alexander-Arnold heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid. The right-back isn’t Liverpool’s only player that will be out of contract in the summer.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also face uncertain futures at Anfield.

The former has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and whenever he does leave, Hamann wants to see Liverpool replace him with Sancho or Saka.

Liverpool are welcome to Sancho… and Antony

Sancho, who is currently on loan at Chelsea, is deemed a flop at United following his £72m transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He hasn’t exactly pulled up trees at Stamford Bridge this season, but I wouldn’t say no if Liverpool came knocking on the door for his signature next summer.

That tells you how little I think of Sancho.

It’s worth noting that Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho at the end of the season.

Hamann told Flashscore (cited by The Metro): “No one can replicate Mohamed Salah’s numbers and his availability.

“If I had to pick another player to replace him with, Liverpool would have to go for Bukayo Saka.

“If Jadon Sancho can find the form he had at Borussia Dortmund, he could be an option to play on the right wing. In the short term, Liverpool have great forwards to fill in that spot too.”

What about Antony?

  1. Sancho was our best player last season. Sure, he was playing in a good team while none of our players played on a good team so maybe we are the flops?

    Maybe Dale is a flop?

But he is only 12, let’s give him a break.
