Man United suffer setback in pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender

Manchester United’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier will not be easy, according to recent reports in Spain.

The Red Devils are understood to be targeting the England international as an ideal squad option who could also offer Aaron Wan-Bissaka some much-needed competition at right-back.

However, recent reports from Spanish outlet Sport (via Sports Witness) claim completing a deal will not be straightforward.

It has been noted that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, who recently guided the side to their 11th La Liga title, views Trippier as an important member of his squad and would be reluctant to see him leave.

Elsewhere, a written report from AS (via Sports Witness) backs up United’s interest in the highly-rated full-back.

However, again, it has been reaffirmed that striking a deal won’t be easy, especially considering the defender saw his contract automatically renewed until 2023 after he made at least 20 appearances last season.

Stretty News understands that the Red Devils, among other clubs, would like to sign Trippier, however, those close to the defender are not expecting any potential transfer to happen until after this summer’s Euros.
