‘It would be deserved’ – Pogba makes controversial Ballon d’Or prediction

Paul Pogba has made a bold prediction for this years Ballon d’Or ceremony as he lobbies for a Chelsea player to win the award this time around, arguing that the Blues’ European victory would count as a merit.

The 28-year-old has lobbied for N’Golo Kanté to take home the prize at the end of the calendar year after his stellar performances in the Champions League. Kanté was voted Man of the Match in both semi-finals against Real Madrid as well as in the final, where Chelsea beat Manchester City to take home the coveted trophy.

“We talk a lot about his performances but he has always been as good as ever,” Pogba said on Kanté, per The Mirror. “I said a long time ago that it would be appropriate, if Chelsea won, for him to win the Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved, too.”

Pogba partnered Kanté at the heart of France’s midfield on their road to World Cup triumph in 2018 and is now suggesting that the midfielder should be crowned as the best player in the world.

The Ballon d’Or has been dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but their dominance was broken in 2018, when Luka Modric ended a 10-year streak of only Ronaldo and Messi taking home the prize.

The luxury ceremony which comes with the award award was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic but is set to make a return for this year.
