Manchester United paying close attention to transfer targets at Euro 2020

Is this a sign we won’t be getting our business done early this summer? That said, it was always going to be tricky after the European Championships were rescheduled to take place this summer as opposed to last, and the tournament is bound to get in the way of proceedings.

The line coming out of the Manchester Evening News this afternoon is United will continue to scout a number of transfer targets at the Euros this summer. And more, you would hope.

A club like United should be working on transfers – 2-3 or sometimes more years in advance. Even if they managed to get their business done before it all kicks-off, I’d still expect our scouts to keep busy and begin looking at players we may seek down the line. New targets!

I could go on and on about the club’s recruitment and I won’t be accepting the Euros as an excuse for another poor summer. The manager needs to be back and it’s now or never.

The MEN adds that Villarreal defender and United target Pau Torres has no plans to discuss his future ahead of representing Spain this summer. That alone pushes potential talks back to late in the window, and fellow defensive target Raphael Varane has already joined up with the France squad.

Gareth Southgate will not want any deals to take place for his players while they are still involved in the tournament and I think all clubs understand that.

The players themselves will be focused on doing well at the Euros, too, so it’s down to United to get negotiations underway with the selling clubs and agents.
