‘Interesting player’ – Southampton manager confirms interest in Manchester United full-back

Southampton would like to sign Brandon Williams this summer. That has been made crystal clear by their manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Saints believe now could be the time to persuade the 20-year-old to join the club, switching in the opposite direction to Luke Shaw, who signed for the Red Devils in 2014.

Williams competed with Shaw for a place at left-back last season but chances in the team this term have been few and far between.

“He is an interesting player and a good player, yes,” Hasenhuttl said about Williams, as per Hampshire Live.

“As Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] said, he does not think that a lot of players will leave the club so we keep on going!”

You could say he’s been unlucky with Shaw’s rise to prominence – but you won’t hear any United fans complain about that since he has become the best left-back in the Premier League this season.

I think a transfer to Southampton is a great opportunity for Williams. The club refused to let him leave on loan in the summer, so we can totally understand why he would be unhappy at his current situation.

Williams needs to be playing football. If that isn’t possible at Old Trafford, he needs to push for a move elsewhere.
