Solskjaer would ‘love’ to keep Edinson Cavani for another year

Tonight showed exactly why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United for at least one more season.

There are reasons to be pessimistic because Boca Juniors have made it very clear they believe they have a shot at signing the striker this summer. It all comes from the belief Cavani would like to move closer to home — and there’s no denying Argentina is closer to Uruguay than Manchester.

I, too, would like Cavani to stay another season at the club. He was excellent tonight in the 6-2 win over AS Roma, scoring a brace, and continuing an amazing record against the Serie A outfit, who he has plenty of experience playing against from his time in Italy.

Kudos to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted the following tweet before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his post-match press conference: “Manchester United will do ‘everything they can’ to keep Edinson Cavani. The board and everyone in the club want Edi to stay – as they told him in last meeting. Solskjaer is pushing with the player.

“Cavani will communicate his decision after speaking with his family.”

Minutes later, quotes from Solskjaer surfaced on Twitter to confirm Romano’s claims. BBC Sport hack Simon Stone tweeted from the press conference:

Winning the Europa League might help convince Cavani to stay another season.

Respected United fan and journalist, Andy Mitten, makes a very good point about needing to quarantine Cavani in England for the foreseeable future.
