Raphael Varane breaks silence on Real Madrid future, amid Man Utd links

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane discussed his future as he addressed the press ahead of the first leg of Los Blancos’ Champions League semi-final versus Chelsea.

The French centre-back insisted his “future is clear” as he tackled speculation over a transfer away from Spain, which has intensified following a report from AS stating that Real Madrid will listen to offers rather than risk losing Varane on a Bosman next year.

The Mirror name Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG as clubs interested in signing Varane from Madrid – but the player himself says he is only focused on the upcoming games.

A typical response from a player who knows he will be in the gossip columns this summer.

“My future is clear,” Varane said, as quoted by The Mirror. “I am focused on the end of the season. We are in a very intense and key moment.”

He was then asked if he would like to stay in the Spanish capital beyond 2022, and replied: “It is normal that my focus is on the end of the season.

“The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team.

“We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field.”

It would be a remarkable feat if Varane could lead Madrid to European glory this season because 1. They haven’t been very good and 2. It would be his fifth UCL triumph.

Defending the La Liga title is another possibility for this Madrid side this season.
