Solskjaer delivers huge Anthony Martial injury blow before Brighton fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Anthony Martial could be ruled out for the rest of Manchester United’s season with an injury sustained on international duty with France.

Martial limped out of France’s clash against Kazakhstan during the international break with a knee problem and Solskjaer has noted that the problem is worse than first feared.

The Frenchman was omitted entirely from United’s squad to face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League and the United manager confirmed before kick-off that he is out with a sprained knee.

“Unfortunately he’s [Martial] sprained his knee with France, it’s always when they go away for internationals,” he told MUTV, as quoted by the MEN.

“It’s fingers crossed and hope they’re going to come back fit — losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing.”

Martial’s potential absence for the remainder of the campaign is a huge blow for Solskjaer, regardless of the fact the 25-year-old hasn’t been firing for United.
The Reds are entering a defining period in the season as they look to consolidate second place in the league and claim their maiden silverware under Solskjaer with the Europa League.
United are threadbare in attacking options without Martial and it would be a sorry end to a frustrating season for the striker.
