Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wants up to sign up to four players to bolster his Manchester United squad this summer and is willing to offload several players to boost his transfer budget.
United look well-placed for a top-four finish this season but clearly still need to strengthen in several key areas if they are to push for a serious Premier League title challenge.
The Reds can return back to second in the league with victory over West Ham on Sunday evening but would remain 14 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City even with three points.
Solskjaer has proven there are clear signs of progression under his tutelage, despite a disappointing window last summer where some problem positions within his squad were not addressed.
It’s important the Norwegian boss gets backed financially to accelerate his rebuild this summer, but the Metro reports that he may have to sell players to fund deals after being handed a modest budget of around £80m.
The Metro claim that Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Juan Mata and Phil Jones could all be jettisoned before next season.
This would significantly increase United’s budget and it is added in the report that Solskjaer is looking to add a new centre-back, defensive midfielder, right-winger and striker if Edinson Cavani does not extend his stay at the club.
United’s requirement for an elite central defender has been reiterated on countless occasions this season and that will surely be the position prioritised as Solskjaer looks to build a title-winning side.
