Dean Henderson

Huge save to keep out Van-Aanholt regardless of whether he was offside. Did nothing wrong and kept another clean sheet on a night of few chances. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Purposeful in attack and superb cross denied by Ward with Cavani lurking. Didn’t show same ambition after the break. 6

Eric Bailly

Composed as he replaced Lindelof and comfortable on the ball but he wasn’t overworked. 6

Harry Maguire

Made a sluggish start and unnerved United on several occasions but opposition didn’t threaten. 5

Luke Shaw

United’s most creative player and threatened down the left but influence wained as the team floundered. 7

Fred

Lack of ingenuity or sharpness in possession highlighted how much United are missing Paul Pogba. 4

Nemanja Matic

Closest to scoring in first-half but mistake could have led to Townsend goal. Predictably couldn’t help United unlock the door. 4

Bruno Fernandes

United somehow regressed in the second-half and Fernandes could not spark anything throughout. 3

Marcus Rashford

Looked completely off the pace, casual in possession and continued to run down blind alleys. 3

Mason Greenwood

Delivered a glorious cross in first-half and struck a powerful shot just over in one of United’s only openings.5

Edinson Cavani

Missed good chance from corner but had next to no service and substituted for James. 5

Substitutes

Scott McTominay

Had a chance to shoot immediately after arrival but didn’t bring urgency. 5

Daniel James

Missed a free header that Cavani would surely have connected with. 5
