Man United could turn attentions to more affordable defensive target

Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to pay Jules Kounde’s £63m release clause which could prompt them to turn their attentions to Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

Kounde, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as the Red Devils continue their search for a new centre-back.

After joining Sevilla from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in 2019, Kounde has grown to become of Europe’s most highly-rated defenders.

The talented Frenchman has featured in 73 appearances for Sevilla and undoubtedly played a vital role in his side lifting the Europa League last season.

Despite enjoying a hugely successful rise in Spain, according to recent reports, the Red Devils are unlikely to make a move due to the player’s whopping £63m release clause.

However, seemingly undeterred in their pursuit of a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire, according to Eurosport, the Red Devils’ hierarchy could turn their attentions to Villareal’s Torres.

It has been claimed that the defender has a release clause of £43m, a figure club officials are more willing to pay.

Most shockingly though, Eurosport also goes on to claim that current defender Eric Bailly could be moved on which would help free up even more funds.
