Midfielder set for Manchester United return after struggling on loan

Manchester United are set to be reunited with on-loan midfielder Andreas Pereira after an unsuccessful spell with Lazio.

Pereira, 25, came through United’s academy system after joining from PSV as a teenager in 2012. He was highly thought of as an academy player but never managed to nail a place down in the first team despite gaining lots of experience on loan in Spain.

Now on loan in Italy at Lazio, it was thought the move would see Pereira get more game time under his belt as well as the chance to reignite his career. After seeing Chris Smalling prove himself in Italy the previous season, my guess is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the same for Pereira.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (translated by Sport Witness), Lazio are unlikely to take up the option to make his switch permanent. That is because the Brazil international’s style doesn’t suit Simone Inzaghi’s tactical plans.

I guess all we can hope for between now and the end of the season is that Pereira improves.

Pereira is very much playing for his career at this rate.
