Confirmed Man Utd XI v Real Sociedad – Henderson and Bailly start

Manchester United find themselves back in the Europa League after an unsuccessful attempt at reaching the Champions League knockout stages.

The Reds finished third behind Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in their group, but now have a chance to go all the way in Europe’s second-rate competition. Come on, you can at least try be optimistic about it.

We all obviously want to be competing in the Champions League but this is a good opportunity for our side to come up against a technically gifted side. Real Sociedad have a number of dangerous players and two of them we know better than the others: David Silva and Adnan Januzaj.

Dean Henderson gets the nod between the sticks and he needs to show why so many fans seem to be calling for David de Gea to be dropped. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles both start in their familiar full-back roles, while Eric Bailly partners Harry Maguire in the heart of defence.

It looks like a 4-3-3 with Scott McTominay and Fred joined by Bruno Fernandes in midfielder.

That leaves us with a trio up front of Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James.

United fans will be delighted to see Amad Diallo on the bench — joined by Anthony Martial who is a player in need of goals.
