Graeme Souness makes prediction about Dean Henderson becoming first-choice at Manchester United

Graeme Souness believes ‘it is only a matter of time’ before Dean Henderson replaces David de Gea as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

De Gea was criticised for two costly errors in the 3-3 draw against Everton last weekend and Henderson kept a clean sheet in the midweek FA Cup victory over West Ham.

Many supporters agreed that Henderson was deserving of a regular run in the side after the Spaniard’s latest mistakes.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted to retain the trust in his number one as De Gea starts against West Brom at the Hawthorns as United return to Premier League action this afternoon.

Former Liverpool player and manager Souness suggested the key reason for Sheffield United’s plight this season was the absence of Henderson, who spent two successful seasons on loan in South Yorkshire.

Souness notes that De Gea is making mistakes that could be causing concern with teammates in the United changing room.
