Agent of Pedro Gonçalves breaks silence on Man United links

The agent of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Gonçalves has spoken out about the increasing speculation his highly-rated client could be set for a move to Manchester United.

Gonçalves, 22, has only been with Sporting Lisbon for six months after moving from Famalicão last summer, however, that hasn’t stopped strong speculation that the midfielder could be set for a big move to England.

The talented central midfielder has so far featured in just 13 matches for Sporting Lisbon and has been directly involved in a whopping 14 goals, in all competitions.

In light of the 22-year-old’s inspired form, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have emerged as potential candidates to bring the talented midfielder back  to England.

Gonçalves is already familiar with English football after previously enjoying a two-year spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ under-23s side.

A recent live report from Portuguese outlet Record (via Eurosport) have claimed that the player is ‘waiting’ for United to make formal contact.

However, the latest in the ongoing saga comes directly from Gonçalves’s agent who has addressed the speculation.

Speaking to Portuguese radio station TSF (as quoted by Sports Witness) agent Jorge Pires said: “At the moment there is nothing concrete and, even if there was, it wouldn’t be the best moment for Pedro Gonçalves and much less for Sporting.

“There is no interest on our part in this transfer market, nor are Sporting interested in losing Pedro. Therefore, any business is out of the question.”
