Kingsley Coman suggests he could’ve been tempted by Manchester United transfer

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has given a positive response to transfer speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The World Cup-winner, aged 24, was seen as an alternative option to Jadon Sancho in the summer (via Daily Mail), after scoring the winning goal in Bayern Munich’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, but a deal never materialised.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted a right winger and ended up signing two, but Facundo Pellistri has spent most of his time with the U23s while Amad Diallo has yet to officially arrive from Atalanta.

There will still be a need for a right winger in the summer unless one of the two youngsters mentioned above stun us between now and the end of the season, so transfer talk re: either Coman or Sancho won’t be going away anytime soon.

However, Coman has revealed some details about his situation at Bayern and it sounds like he could’ve been tempted to join United in the summer, when he initially had some concerns about playing less following the signing of Leroy Sane.

Coman’s interview with Bild has been translated by the Daily Mirror.

“Knowing that good teams are interested in me is good, it gives me additional confidence,” Coman said.

“But I have a contract here until 2023, I’m just thinking of Bayern. It’s all good, I’m happy.

“I had the feeling that I could be used less often [due to Leroy Sane’s arrival]. I’m 24, that’s an age I have to play! Fortunately, my fear did not come true.”

He was clearly tempted by a switch to United — with Sane joining Bayern from Man City — but it turns out his decision to stay put is working out.

Moreover, I’m looking forward to seeing what Diallo can bring when he joins up with the squad and Pellistri looks a promising player for the future.

Solskjaer has definitely added depth to the squad, but more quality is needed on the right wing.
