Photo: Rafael shares moment with Solskjaer after United’s UCL win over Istanbul Basaksehir

Rafael Da Silva returned to Old Trafford last night as an Istanbul Basakeshir player. The Brazilian right-back was on the receiving end of a 4-1 hammering against his former club.

Always respectful when it comes to United, Rafael took a moment to have a chat with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and shared a heartwarming update after the match on his official Instagram page.

Rafael spent seven-years at Old Trafford where his talent was nurtured by Sir Alex Ferguson. He joined the club with his twin brother Fabio but it was difficult for him to maintain his place in the team post-Fergie.

After David Moyes came Louis van Gaal, who never appeared to be a fan and got rid of Rafael. The Dutch manager would play Antonio Valencia ahead of him, or even Phil Jones…

Despite being sold when I’m sure he would have preferred to stay, Rafael still speaks highly about his time at Manchester United.

Now an Istanbul Basaksehir player, he took to Instagram last night to write the following message, accompanied by a picture with Solskjaer: “Just hope the best for you and Manchester United keep fighting my friend like you are doing 💪❤️ all the best @manchesterunited thank you for the warm welcome before and after the game. Love you all ❤️❤️”
