Juan Mata could be set for a new contract at Manchester United.

The Spaniard last signed a contract in June 2019 when he agreed to a new deal tying him to the club for three years, as per The Guardian.

That contract runs until 2022 but with Mata already surpassing Nemanja Matic and new signing Donny van de Beek for minutes played this season, it looks like he will be rewarded with fresh terms.

The 32-year-old has started five of United’s previous 6 matches and I think most will agree that he’s a professional you want around some of the younger players coming through.

According to Todofichajes, Mata’s agent has an imminent meeting scheduled with United to sort out a new one-year contract which could see the midfielder maintain his current salary.

The report also mentions interest from Italy and Qatar but we can’t see Mata turning down a new deal at Old Trafford as long as he’s offered one.

I suspect Donny van de Beek will play more games over the Christmas period, but it is perhaps telling that Solskjaer has preferred Mata this season.

Would you be happy to see Mata sign a new deal at United?
