Shock midfield exclusion as Solskjaer opts for experience

It looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is calling on experience in the middle tonight as Manchester United look to secure their first three points at Old Trafford this season.

There’s no denying it has been a long time coming, but United take on a side later who are struggling in the top-flight and could be tipped to go down this term.

We cannot underestimate them and need to show greater consistency if we’re to achieve our objectives this season. The pressure will grow on Solskjaer until the team becomes consistent.

Jonathan Shrager has another line-up update prior to the club’s announcement. This time he says Nemanja Matic will start ahead of Scott McTominay in midfield, despite the Scot recently forming a brilliant partnership with Fred.

McTominay has become one of the mainstays in the side, so it will be a surprise to see us start without him tonight.

Perhaps it’s a case of Matic doing really well at Carrington because it’s not as if he can’t play anymore.

My reckoning is Fred will keep his place in the starting line-up — although a wild shout would see him replaced by Paul Pogba.

I would be surprised if Solskjaer made loads of changes from the win over Everton, prior to the November international break.

But we often look more assured in midfield when Matic plays.
