Paul Merson believes Man United star should be benched against Arsenal

Former Arsenal player turned pundit Paul Merson thinks Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford should start on the bench when the Reds take-on the Gunners on Sunday.

Rashford, who turned 23 today has been on fire so far during the new 2020-21 season after already being directly involved in nine goals from nine appearances in all competitions.

The young Englishman’s latest goal scoring heroics came during United’s recent 5-0 thumping win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League after the forward bagged a brilliant second-half hat-trick.

Rashford was introduced into Wednesday’s European tie at the 63rd-minute mark and went onto score three superb goals to put the game out of Julian Nagelsmann’s reach.

United head into an exciting Premier League match on Sunday when they will host Mikel Arteta’s men at Old Trafford.

According to former Arsenal player Paul Merson who wrote in his Daily Star column, United’s on fire number-10 should start Sunday’s match on the bench again.

Merson believes that Rashford’s effectiveness is best suited to being introduced late on in games and thinks he could have a greater impact as a substitute rather than an out and out starter.

United are scheduled to kick-off against Arsenal at 4.30pm UK time on Sunday.
