Marcus Rashford’s first Manchester United hat-trick from the substitutes bench was incredible – but he could have even had four.
Rashford emphatically netted three inside 20 minutes as United put last year’s Champions League semi-finalists RB Leipzig to the sword in the closing stages.
But he did not step up to secure his hat-trick when the Reds were awarded a penalty with the scoreline 3-0.
Instead, Anthony Martial stepped up to net his first goal of the season, and it appeared Rashford was happy to see his teammate get off the mark.
Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves disagreed in the BT Sport studio over whether Rashford should have taken control and claimed the spot-kick.
Ferdinand believes Rashford should have shown a ruthless edge, while Hargreaves believes Rashford’s thoughtfulness is a sign of future captain material.
Anyhow, Martial taking the penalty could have been a direct order from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench.
Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst tweeted during the match that Solskjaer told the Frenchman to step up.
Solskjaer shouted at Martial to take it. Wanted him to get off the mark. #mufc

"Messi and Ronaldo ain't giving a pen away!"
Or…
"That's why he'll be the captain, he thinks of others."
