Man United youngster makes England Under-21’s debut in Euros qualifying

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams will make his England Under-21’s debut this afternoon in a European Championship qualifying fixture away to Andorra.

Williams, 20, only made his first senior United appearance this time last year so his rise through to international prominence has been quite brilliant.

The Crumpsall-born youngster starts alongside Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams, who are also making their debuts under manager Aidy Boothroyd after impressing in the Carabao Cup.

Williams made 17 Premier League appearances for the Reds last season but has been overlooked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the opening three league games where defending has been woeful.

He has however played in both league cup victories over Luton Town and Brighton.

The arrival of Brazilian left-back Alex Telles will provide further competition when Williams from international duty, and there had been some suggestions he could secure a late loan move to play regular first-team football.

But the loan transfer of Diogo Dalot to AC Milan means Williams should get enough game time as full-back cover to aid his development this term.

For now, the youngster’s focus will be on making an impact in his England U21 debut. The game kicks off at 2pm BST and is being streamed on England’s official Youtube channel.

Good luck, Brandon!
