(Video) Juan Mata visibly excited to be playing with ‘clever’ Donny van de Beek after Brighton win

Juan Mata spoke to Sky Sports after his impressive performance against Brighton in the Carabao Cup and was very happy with new team-mate Donny van de Beek.

Manchester United won 3-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals after goals from Scott McTominay, man of the match Mata, and a brilliant free-kick from Paul Pogba.

The Spaniard scored his 50th Manchester United goal as he slotted the ball past the Brighton goalkeeper to make it 2-0. We also seen glimpses of link-up play between Mata and new signing Van de Beek and it was very easy on the eye.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mata makes it clear that he was happy with the team’s performance tonight. Considering it was our second string side for the most part he’s not wrong.

He credits Graham Potter for the style of football Brighton play — trying to build on attacks from the back as opposed to lumping balls forward. The typical hit-and-hope approach.

Mata states the importance of scoring in the first-half and praises Scott McTominay for the midfielder’s power header.

The Spain international also expresses how he enjoys playing with Van de Beek. As two technically gifted players, you love to see it!

Good players like playing with good players.
