Manchester United had a loan enquiry turned down for Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa after failing thus far to make a breakthrough in Jadon Sancho negotiations with Borussia Dortmund.
It’s starting to look like United and Dortmund won’t come to an agreement this summer, so United’s solution this late in the transfer window is to find a short-term alternative. Not how you really want to be starting a new season — knowing slack later on in the season is likely to fall on the manager’s head when a lot of responsibility for this mess falls on the club’s board.
Have they backed him like they should? Is there financial restraints other than COVID-19? No and yes.
With five days to go, reports from Norway’s Dagblabet claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held more talks with Sancho last week and the player is not playing Dortmund’s match against Bayern Munich because he is pushing through a transfer.
The Telegraph have reported on United’s loan enquiry for Chiesa, 22, who is also being heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus.
The English newspaper also played down claims Ousmane Dembele will be joining the club on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline. Apparently the Frenchman doesn’t want to leave Barcelona and Ronald Koeman has decided to keep him at Camp Nou this season.
“They are decisions on the part of the club and the player,” Koeman is quoted as telling the press. “As we have seen, I am going to count on him. He has not played from the beginning because there are more players and Ansu (Fati) has proven to be very good for this team. He was better physically the first weeks. But today he trained well and I’m going to count on him.”
Who will be the next right winger to be linked with a move to United? It could be anyone at this rate.
