Confirmed Man Utd line-up vs Brighton: Chance for Diogo Dalot to prove himself

Manchester United are back in action again tonight as they take on Brighton for the second time in just five games.

There was plenty drama at the weekend when the two teams faced off at the Amex Stadium. Bruno Fernandes struck from the penalty spot late into injury time to give United their first win in the Premier League this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no new injury worries ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash but the United manager has still named a second string side for the match.

Dean Henderson gets the nod between the sticks while Diogo Dalot gets his first start in a while. The Portuguese full-back’s future remains uncertain because it didn’t look like he was fancied when fit last season. Hopefully he puts in a display tonight that changes Solskjaer’s view of him for the better. Dalot starts in a back four consisting of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Brandon Williams.

In midfield, protecting the defence, is duo Fred and Scott McTominay. It gives them a chance to compete for a place to face Tottenham on Saturday, but tonight could also be a chance to give Nemanja Matic a rest.

It will be interesting to see how United perform in the final third with Juan Mata, Donny van de Beek and Daniel James tasked with creating chances for Odion Ighalo up front. I suspect James will be used further forward to hit Brighton on the counter attack.
