Solskjaer hits back at Manchester United transfer window criticism

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took issue with the accusation Manchester United risk standing still if they end the transfer window having made only one signing.

It’s not that wild an accusation though, is it?

Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and even Arsenal have improved their teams over the summer.

United bolstered their midfield with Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax in a deal worth £35m, as per BBC Sport, but the club have yet to bid for Jadon Sancho despite constant speculation all summer long.

The transfer window is open until October 5, so the club still have time to improve Solskjaer’s squad.

With deadline day in just over a week’s time, the club are under increased pressure after the disappointing 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.

Tensions existed already over a lack of squad investment prior to their Premier League opener.

However, Solskjaer says it was ‘disrespectful’ of a journalist to say Van de Beek was the ‘only player’ to have arrived at United this summer even though Van de Beek is the only player to have signed for the Reds this summer.

The journalist was right, not being disrespectful. It’s a mockery that Manchester United have made just one signing after finishing last season in third place.

“I think you show quite a bit of disrespect to Donny when you say he was the only one,” Solskjaer said (via Manchester Evening News). “Because he is a top player and he strengthens our team and, of course, we have to concentrate on ourselves.

“Different clubs have to be allowed to do whatever they do and feel they can. We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team. If and when there are updates we will give you them.”

On top of accusing a journalist of disrespect, in a bid to protect his controversial employer’s image, Solskjaer is off the mark saying we only need to focus on ourselves.

Is he forgetting we finished third last season?

Last year we improved on the season before — but in light of all the teams around us outspending us, we can’t keep up if we’re going to sit idle for the rest of the transfer window.
