FC Porto’s Alex Telles has perfect chance to join Man United

Manchester United fans have been forced to watch Real Madrid’s highly-rated left-back Sergio Reguilon edge closer to a move to domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the last 48 hours after it was revealed that United refused to agree to Madrid’s terms of a buy-back clause putting Jose Mourinho in the driving seat. However, despite the disappointment of watching Reguilon’s transfer to Spurs edge ever closer, there could be some good news on the horizon for United fans in the form of FC Porto’s Telles.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to bump a new left-back up his wish-list after Real Madrid’s Reguilon was made available, however, despite the prospect of one of La Liga’s most exciting talents joining United, the club were forced to withdraw from negotiations after it became clear Madrid would not budge on a strict buy-back clause.

Zinedine Zidane’s reluctance to allow Reguilon leave without the possibility of re-joining Los Blancos further down the line prompted a stalemate in negotiations allowing Spurs to take advantage, as per leading journalist David Ornstein.

The talented 23-year-old is now on the brink of being confirmed as a new Spurs player after it was reported this morning by Sky Sports that the Spaniard was having his Spurs medical in Madrid.

Reguilon wasn’t the only left-back the United hierarchy have reportedly been looking at this summer with FC Porto’s Telles also catching the eye after transfer expert Duncan Castles revealed on the Transfer Window Podcast that the experienced left-back had been offered to the Reds.

Telles, 27, is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most reliable left-backs, both defensively and offensively after being directly involved in a stunning 25 goals in all competitions last season for his Portuguese side.

According to Thursday’s written copy of A Bola (via Manchester Evening News) who specialise in Portuguese news, the news that Reguilon will be going to Spurs has left the ‘door is wide open’ for Telles to join United this summer.

The report goes onto claim that Telles may be available for just €20m in light of his contract expiring as early as next summer, however, given the rules surrounding contracts, Telles will be able to speak with clubs outside of Portugal as early as January 1.
