Solskjaer told Donny Van de Beek where he will play for Man Utd in phone call

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told imminent Manchester United signing Donny Van de Beek that he will play in the no.10 role next season, according to reports in Holland.

Van de Beek is set to be confirmed as a United player in the coming days after a £40m fee was agreed with Ajax, as per BBC Sport.

The Dutch international will become the club’s first summer signing and provide excellent quality and strength in depth to Solskjaer’s midfield options.

Van de Beek’s versatility is arguably his biggest asset as he is adept operating in attacking midfield and a box-to-box role, as well as being capable of shielding the back four.

United’s imminent new arrival’s best position is causing plenty of debate within the fanbase who would love to see him accommodated in the same midfield as Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

But according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Solskjaer has already hinted in a FaceTime call with Van de Beek that he plans to utilise him in a more attacking role next season.

Van de Beek has 40 goals for Ajax in the last three seasons and will add an extra goalscoring threat from midfield for the Reds.

If Solskjaer does indeed choose to deploy Van de Beek at no.10, it will be fascinating to see the tactical switch he makes with key man Bruno Fernandes shining in the position last season.

Regardless, Van de Beek is an astute signing that will provide healthy competition in a number of midfield positions in the new campaign.
