Manchester United fans have thanked Edwin Van der Sar after the club legend and Ajax CEO all but confirmed Donny Van de Beek’s impending transfer to Old Trafford.
As reported by BBC Sport, Van de Beek’s move to United is set to be finalised in the coming days after a £40m fee was agreed between the two clubs.
Van de Beek is set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing of the summer window and the addition seems a very astute piece of business given the quality and potential of the Dutch international.
United great Van der Sar, who helped facilitate the transfer, replied to former teammate Rio Ferdinand’s tweet: “Good Evening @Donny_beek6” with the eyes emoji, with a crying face emoji.

Van der Sar will be gutted to lose such a fantastic talent in the Ajax squad but will know Old Trafford is a fantastic platform for Van de Beek to fulfil his potential on the biggest stage.
According to the Guardian, the legendary goalkeeper’s close relationship with United has helped the transfer near completion so quickly.
United fans will always be indebted to Van der Sar for his defining penalty save in the Champions League final in 2008, but plenty have also thanked him for his role in allowing Van de Beek to join the club.
