Manchester United trio miss out on Premier League Young Player of Season award

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has beaten three Manchester United youngsters to the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking trident of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were all nominated after impressive goalscoring seasons.

The trio scored a combined 44 goals in the league this season, helping the Reds to an unlikely third place finish and Champions League qualification.

Greenwood has enjoyed a superb full breakthrough season, establishing himself as a first-team regular and exhibiting his almost unmatched natural goalscoring ability.

Rashford was totemic for the Reds before his injury in January and Martial has proven he can be Solskjaer’s long-term striker with his best goalscoring season.

But they have all missed out with Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold a deserved recipient of the award.

Alexander-Arnold, 21, played a key role in Liverpool ending their 30-year title drought, featuring in every single Premier League game and registering an impressive 13 assists.

United loanee Dean Henderson was also one of the nominees after an outstanding season on-loan at Sheffield United.

Chelsea forwards Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish were the other young players nominated.
