PSG ignite shock transfer interest in Man United fan favourite

French giants Paris Saint Germain have reportedly sparked interest in signing on-loan Manchester United fan favourite Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo, 31, who is currently with the Reds on-loan until January 2021 from Chinese side Shanghai Greenland Shenhua has become a shock transfer target for Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Ighalo has become somewhat of a cult hero among fans of United after displaying desire to play for his boyhood club even if it means accepting a bit-part role.

The Nigerian striker has been directly involved in six goals for United in 18 appearances, although, of those 18 appearances, Ighalo has only started five.

According to a recent report from Foot Mercato, Ighalo is one of a host of names on an attacking shortlist drawn up by French giants PSG.

The French champions have recently allowed Edinson Cavani to depart the club and despite having world-class fire power available in the form of Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe, PSG feel they are lacking central attacking options with only Mauro Icardi and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to choose from.

The report claims that PSG’s interest in Ighalo is ‘very real’ as the striker’s contract with parent side SH Shenhua is set to expire at the end of 2021, the French side view him as a good experienced and affordable option.

It is also understood that PSG may opt against waiting for Ighalo’s loan spell with United to end before making an official approach for his services as it is believed the PSG camp have already opened talks with the Nigerian’s representatives.
