Man United winger named among substitutes against LASK amid Bundesliga links

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided not to include winger Tahith Chong in his Manchester United starting lineup to play LASK this evening.

United host the Austrian outfit in the Europa League round of 16 second leg, which is all but a formality after Solskjaer’s men secured a 5-0 first leg lead in the final game before lockdown.

Unsurprisingly, Solskjaer has made a host of changes to his side that defeated Leicester in the final day Premier League showdown to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

But some peripheral players have still missed out, with young winger Tahith Chong having to settle for a place on the substitutes bench.

Chong has started just three first-team games this season, two of which coming in the Europa League and many expected him to get the nod this evening.

But the Dutchman will now have to impress from the bench after being overlooked for a starting spot by the likes of Jessie Lingard and Juan Mata.

The 20-year-old’s future is up in the air this summer, and we could understand if he is frustrated at not being selected for this game that is ultimately a procession.

And according to.a report from German publication BILD, talks have been held between Chong’s representatives and Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen over a potential switch this summer

Chong’s agent Jonathan Barnett has previously spoken exclusively to Stretty News about his client’s future, suggesting Chong may be open to a loan move this summer.

“He [Chong] believes,” Barnett said. “We all believe that he has a future there. I think he’s a great talent.”

“But he needs to be playing games and if that means going out on loan then maybe that’s something which we need to be talking about.”
