Solskjaer’s line-up vs Brighton signals end to one player’s Man United career

Jessie Lingard has been left out entirely of the Manchester United squad to face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium this evening.

The forlorn midfielder had an opportunity to stake a claim in the FA Cup quarter-final against Norwich City on Saturday as Solskjaer made eight changes to his line-up.

But Lingard disappointed yet again, and failed to even earn a place on the bench for a game United must win to keep tabs on Leicester City, Chelsea and Wolves in the European places.

Lingard started brightly at Carrow Road and looked eager to impress, but soon drifted away and failed to create anything meaningful in the final third.

Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata and Daniel James have all been preferred by Solskjaer as substitute options this evening.

Surely being left out of a second consecutive Premier League matchday squad will spell the end of Lingard’s United career.

The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has meant the academy graduate has fallen further down the pecking order, and there’s every chance that he has made his last start for his boyhood club.

Lingard needs to move elsewhere to kickstart his career and continue playing regular football again.
