Angel Gomes bids farewell to Man Utd teammates while Chelsea links are being played down

Angel Gomes has reportedly said his goodbyes to his Manchester United team-mates with his contract set to expire this week.

Attempts were made to renew the 19-year-old’s contract but they’ve all been turned down, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced on Monday that Gomes would be leaving the club.

“I’ve got no news, nothing,” Solskjaer said (via The Independent). “I’ve not heard from them last night or this morning, it seems like they haven’t managed to agree. The answer is probably short and ‘yes [he’s leaving]’, then.

There has been talk of interest from Chelsea but The Athletic claim their sources have played down links, though they back up claims that Gomes had said his goodbyes to United players at Carrington yesterday.

The report puts Gomes’ reason for leaving United down to a lack of first team opportunities, which I think we can all understand.

That said, Gomes needs to be realistic about his chances and he probably looks at the competition for places in his position and thinks he will have a better career elsewhere. I respect that.

The Express are running a story this morning which suggests Solskjaer wants to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish.

Talk about upgrade!
