Manchester United coaching staff praise ‘ridiculous’ Mason Greenwood talent

Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood has been hailed as a ‘ridiculous’ talent and tipped to reach the very top by his former coach and current under-23 assistant manager Quinton Fortune.

Greenwood, 18, has seen his stock rise in what has been a break-out season for the youngster who boasts a highly impressive 18 goal contributions in 39 appearances.

Fellow professionals have not been shy in issuing the English talent with some high praise, including ex team-mate, Romelu Lukaku who took to Twitter to say that Greenwood is the best young player currently at United.

The latest name to come out and sing the young forward’s praise is current United under-23s coach and ex-player Quinton Fortune.

Speaking to UTD Podcast, Fortune said: “Mason is fortunate he’s got Ole as a manager. Obviously there’s all the coaches he’s had through his youth-team career but he couldn’t ask for a better manager because Ole’s done it at the highest level.

“There’s not many players in world football that are able to go both ways like Mason does. Equally, left and right foot, he’s ridiculous.

“I thought he was left-footed and then he takes penalties with his right! And I’ve seen him take a free-kick with his right foot, his left foot.

“I’m like ‘what’s wrong with you!? Just pick one! Are you okay?'”

Fortune went onto address Greenwood’s off-field attitude and determination to always find ways to improve his game, adding: “I’m walking through the building at the Aon Training Complex and there’s a computer room where the analyst team work.

“Mason was in there, looking at games and how he can do better. He’s on it. He’s just a natural. He’s an unbelievable finisher. He’s the real deal.”

Greenwood’s stand-out performances and attacking contributions this season have seen him rank as Europe’s ninth most valuable young player, as per CIES Football Observatory’s weekly report.

When asked what weaknesses Fortune sees in Greenwood, the coach was hard-pressed to come up with an answer, saying: “I’m waiting for him to have a burst of speed but he’s so good around the box. Stepover, boom! He’s just created that one little yard for him and boom!

“As a defender, which way do you show Mason? He can go right, he can go left. I don’t even know, the guy’s got everything.”
