Mason Greenwood and two more United starlets nominated for Golden Boy award

Italian outlet Tuttosport announced the list of nominees for this year’s prestigious Golden Boy award.

A hundred young players are up for the honour with Manchester United headed by Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and James Garner.

Ever since 2003, the award has been given to the best U21 youngster who plays in Europe. It was won by Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix last year.

Greenwood should be among the frontrunners for the award this year after making his stamp on the United’s first-team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed him perfectly in terms of game time and we’ve no doubt that he will play a part in United’s remaining games as we hope to clinch top four and a trophy.

So far this season, the 18-year-old has netted 13 times after playing 37 games for United.

The other two lads in the running, Gomes and Garner, haven’t featured too often for the first-team so Greenwood will surely be ahead in the rankings.

Moreover, United have two players in the squad who have won the Golden Boy award, with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial winning the title in 2013 and 2015 respectively. It would be great to have another player in the squad with this award to their name.
