United target Saul Niguez’s new club announcement turns out to be publicity stunt

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, who has been reported as a long-term Manchester United target, recently teased the announcement of a new club.

This all came after some premature reporting in Spain — from Todofichajes — claiming a fee (€80m) has already been agreed between United and Ateti.

But today we discovered that Saul’s social media activity was just a way to generate attention for his new football team named Club Costa City.

The main objective for Club Costa City is to help develop young players between the ages 4-18, and Saul has set it up with his brother Aaron in their hometown Elche.

It was three days ago he sent fans into a frenzy on social media with the post and many thought he was about to prematurely announce his departure from Atleti — but it turned out to be nothing but a publicity stunt.

This doesn’t change the fact that Saul has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, although we don’t see that happening now with Paul Pogba set to stay at the club.

Realistically, no club will be able to meet United’s demands for Pogba this summer so there’s a good chance we will get to see the French star and Bruno Fernandes form a formidable partnership in midfield over the coming months and into next season.

Saul’s release clause is €150m (via FourFourTwo) but Atletico could be persuaded to sell him for less this summer.

Here’s how United fans reacted to Saul’s announcement on Twitter:
