Manchester United have announced a provisional 29-man squad for when the Premier League 2019/20 season resumes.
The omissions of Dean Henderson, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez from the names listed suggest that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club has agreed to extend loan deals with Sheffield United, Estudiantes, AS Roma and Inter Milan.
Though there has been little reported on that front — and we don’t know if deals have been agreed for them to extend their loan spells at those clubs. Henderson’s exclusion suggests he will be staying put at Sheffield United — which everyone expected despite Chris Wilder coming out claiming the Red Devils would be showing bad sportsmanship by taking him back. The Blades are just two points behind United in the Premier Leaguer with a game-in-hand.
I can’t say I’m too bothered about Rojo after his reluctance to follow lockdown rules in Argentina, and we’ve already come to the conclusion that his days at United are numbered. The same — bar the idiocy — applies to Smalling and Sanchez.
Interestingly, Odion Ighalo is on the list and we’ve yet to hear if a deal will be agreed with Shanghai Shenhua to allow him stay longer. A previous report from The Times claims Shanghai are unwilling to allow United to extend Ighalo’s loan and have made it clear they must buy him outright if they want to keep him.
The Chinese Super League side have set a price tag in the region of £15m — and it remains to be seen if United will pay that, but by being included in the squad below it seems we can expect him to finish the season at Old Trafford…
Angel Gomes is also included.
